On TV, Carla has written on Graceland (for Jeff Eastin), Fear the Walking Dead (for Dave Erickson), I Love Dick (for Joey Soloway and Sarah Gubbins), The First (for Beau Willimon), Preacher (for Sam Catlin), Home Before Dark (for Dara Resnik and Dana Fox) and Mr. + Mrs. Smith (for Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover) (and two amazing shows that didn’t go).
She’s also developed work, both original and adapted IP, with Field Trip, Hivemind, Monkeypaw, Super Frog, Imminent Collision, 3AD, Family Owned and Shondaland for AMC, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon and FX.
She’s taken the Writers Guild’s amazing Showrunner Training Program. Yes, she’s been lucky enough to produce a bunch of episodes on set in Los Angeles, Rosarito Mexico, New Orleans, Ft. Lauderdale and Vancouver. She’s been a Co-EP four times.
She most loves stories grounded in character that have great dramatic structure but also have moments of humor, weirdness and magic. She also especially values centering women and people of color in her stories. And as with her plays, she writes work that celebrates the unbreakable nature of the human spirit, and the desire to do be more than we think we can be.
